The principle of charity or charitable interpretation requires interpreting a speaker’s statements in the most rational way possible and, in the case of any argument, considering its best, strongest possible interpretation.

You don’t need to agree with other people’s points of view but we do need to understand them. When we don’t understand what people are trying to say, we’re actually missing out on important information about the topic.

Learn to listen, instead of waiting to speak. You want to assume the person you are speaking to is some measure of reasonable. Walk in their shoes” every time now before responding and the response is most effective for the effort.
